The Stature of the International
Students Service (UWA)
|
|
The International Students Service
(ISS) of UWA was formed as a department of the Student Guild
to look after the welfare of all international students studying
in The University of Western Australia. We are the peak student
body representing international students in the University and
also the umbrella organisation for the smaller international
students associations and clubs on campus.
Do not mistake us for the International Centre. The International
Centre, in which you may find Sally Tan - the International
Students Advisor, is part of the University, whereas the ISS
UWA consists of students working for students.

All
international students who are full-fee paying students are automatically
members into ISS UWA. We are fully funded by the Student Guild and
we use these funds to organise and subsidise an assortment of activities,
sports, games, parties and trips!
As a department of the Guild, ISS UWA tries to look after your welfare
and well-being. As well as looking into issues concerning international
students such as unnecessary and illegal fees, unfair academic assessment
or discrimination. ISS UWA urge you all to participate in all activities,
to make friends and to be aware of all issues that concerns an international
student. Feel free to approach us anytime. Be assured that we will
try our best to
ISS UWA is represented by democratically
elected members. If anyone out there is interested in getting
involved, you may join any of our sub-committees or contest for
an ISS Exec-com position in the ISS UWA elections in late second
semester. In the mean t ime, don't hesitate to get involved.

How does ISS fit into
the picture?
|
|
Campus Level
As a department of the Guild, ISS is an umbrella
body for the various international students associations at
UWA, namely:
The Indonesian Students' Society,
(INDOSS)
Desi Indian Students' Society (DESI)
Asian Student in Australia (ASIA)
Chinese Society (CS)
Japanese Studies Society (JAPSSOC)
Overseas Christian Fellowship (OCF)
The Malaysian Students' Union (MSU)
The Singapore Students' Society and (SSS)
The Pakistani Club
International students are represented
on the University's decision making committees through ISS UWA.
The Director has observer status (speaking but not voting rights)
on the Senate, the highest University body, and is a full member
of the International Programmes Committee. The University's
International Programmes Committee formulates policy and advice
on international students and activities particularly full-fee
paying international student programmes. We need someone to
voice our opinions to the University hierarchy and the Director
of ISS UWA is that person.
