JAPANESE - Mr Samurai (Barrack St), Taka's Kitchen (Metro food hall), Sumo (Plaza Arcade, Perth) and Jaws (4 outlets) are all situated in the city if you're going for the appetising and affordable.

INDONESIAN - Sparrow Café (north-end William St, Northbridge) and Denpasar Moon (James St, Northbridge) are personal picks although there are choices around the city. Sparrow is definitely the kindest on the pocket… plus I'd never leave without my empekpek!!

CHINESE - You can take your pick of Chinese restaurants from Adam Cho's, Uncle Billy, Billy Lee's and my personal favourite, City Garden in and around Chinatown square along Roe St. Northbridge is also the place for 'yum-cha' on weekends but Burswood's Genting Palace is pretty popular (get in early!). If you're willing to make the trek, Spencer Village out near Carousel serves up a fab choice of hawker's food, ready to tackle any appetite.

ITALIAN - Plenty to choose from but some notables include Valentino's Café (a florescent royal blue building, you won't miss it!) & the Spaghetti bar, both along James St; the fabulous Madonna's with its new funky minimalist interior & Benny's on Fremantle's Café Strip; and nearer to uni there's Tiamo Café (fab for between classes :) and Fantastico's 12 buck gourmet pizza's on Rokeby Rd, Subiaco.
